Specs at a Glance
As the best-selling model that Cadillac currently produces, the XT5 provides a plush ride and good fuel economy for those who want a relatively inexpensive luxury ride. This midsize crossover is now in its fourth model year with the 2020 iteration, which is available in a trio of trim levels. At one end is the base-level Luxury and at the other end is the top-tier Sport.
Performance
The 2020 Cadillac XT5 Luxury is powered by a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder engine, which produces 237 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. With the standard front-wheel drivetrain, the Luxury achieves the XT5's peak fuel economy, which is 21 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. By comparison, the Sport has a standard all-wheel-drive system for optimal all-weather driving performance, and its power plant is a 3.6-liter V6 with 310 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque for more exceptional accelerating ability than the 2.0-liter. Both engines, though, are pinned to a 9-speed automatic transmission, which delivers a smooth performance due to its multiple gears.
Appearance
Riding on 18-inch alloy wheels, the XT5 Luxury has active aero shutters to maximize aerodynamic efficiency. Also at the front are LED headlights with automatic switch-on/off ability and low beams for low visibility. On the front doors are heated power side mirrors with integrated turn-signal indicators, and on top are a power sunroof and roof rails. The rear includes a lip spoiler, power liftgate, and an intermittent washer and wiper. Enhancing the XT5 at the Sport trim level is the rain-sensing ability on the front wipers, power-folding ability and a driver-side auto-dimming mirror on the side mirrors, and 20-inch alloy wheels.
Features
The Cadillac XT5 is designed as a five-seater with a host of comfort and convenience features. They include cruise control, Bluetooth, dual-zone automatic climate control, proximity keyless entry, a dual-screen driver information center, a rotary controller, a Wi-Fi hotspot, the OnStar communications system, smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an eight-speaker Bose stereo system, a three-month trial subscription to SiriusXM Radio, four USB ports and an audio jack, and an 8-inch touchscreen. The Sport trim level elevates the XT5 with a garage-door opener, wireless charging ability, auto-dimming ability on the rearview mirror, and an upgrade of the SiriusXM subscription to the 360L platform.
For safety, the XT5 includes driver-assistance technologies such as high auto beams, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist with lane departure warning, front and rear parking assist, forward collision alert, front pedestrian braking, and following distance indicator. Other standard safety features include a seven-airbag system, an HD rearview camera, electronic vehicle stability and traction control, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, LED daytime running lamps, and Teen Driver for monitoring the driving habits of younger drivers. The Sport trim level introduces more driver-assistance tech, which consists of rear cross-traffic alert and lane change alert with side blind zone alert, as well as a self-powered theft-deterrent alarm system.
