Cadillac and MycoWorks Collaborate on New Bio-based Material

Cadillac is contributing to environmental sustainability while continuing to offer premium materials to its customers. Through a collaboration with MycoWorks, a biotech firm based in California, Cadillac is developing a high-quality, eco-friendly leather alternative.

This sustainable material is called Fine Mycelium and keeps the luxurious feel of vehicle interiors intact. It is crafted from the root structures of mushrooms and other bio-based elements such as water, repurposed sawdust, and wheat bran. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, Fine Mycelium is expected to be more resilient and could become lighter, potentially improving vehicle efficiency in the future.

Cadillac's partnership with MycoWorks and the introduction of Fine Mycelium are firsts in the automotive industry. They reinforce Cadillac's position at the forefront of innovation and new technologies while maintaining the luxury the brand is known for.

The Cadillac materials team is actively exploring various applications of this innovative resource. To showcase its capabilities, Cadillac has developed a cardholder accessory made from Fine Mycelium.
