Cadillac XT4 features the stop start engine

Cadillac Auto Stop and Start

It's the feature that saves you big bucks on fuel, and it's handy in most conditions. Whenever your vehicle idles too long, selecting Cadillac models with this feature will shut off the engine. It will quietly restart the engine as soon as you're ready to go again, but the "start" may be enough of a distraction to some folks that they want to disengage the feature altogether when they're in a specific driving scenario. While some folks won't mind and want to save all the fuel they can, other drivers will want to turn off the feature until they're through a very large block of stop and start traffic.

How To Switch Off Stop & Start

How do you turn off auto stop in your Cadillac? The Cadillac auto start-stop disable button will be in different locations for different models, but it's marked by a very clear "A" enclosed by an arrow symbol encircling the A. We'll give a brief example of a specific model here: The ATS. It's directly behind your gear shifter and very visible, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding it. Just press the button, and the light will go off, indicating that your Auto Stop & Start is off. Press it again to turn it back on. On the CT6 and CTS, it's to the left of the display screen, and it's also highly visible, just in a different location. Find the icon, press it, and you're all set when the light goes off (indicating the feature is off). Turn it back on with another click of the button. Since different models have the Icon button in different locations, you'll want to ask the dealership where this button is, or you can find its location in your handbook.

Disengaging the Start & Stop may cut down on your fuel savings, and most Cadillac owners choose to keep it engaged because who doesn't like saving money on fuel? The Start portion of Stop & Start is very quiet and smooth, making it a feature that's sometimes not even noticeable, but if you're going to be starting and stopping a lot, such as in a busy rush hour traffic situation, you can always disengage the feature if it begins to disrupt the flow of driving so that it's annoying to you. Cadillac makes it easy to turn the feature off for their drivers who prefer to pay the extra bit of fuel to have uninterrupted control in stop and go driving situations like in rush hour.
