Formerly produced as a four-door sedan and a two-door coupe, the ATS, a compact luxury car produced under the Cadillac marquee, enters the 2019 model year (its seventh generation) without the former bodystyle. Also, the vehicle gets a larger and higher-powered wireless device charging pad, and there’s no longer a manual transmission.
Now strictly a coupe, the 2019 Cadillac ATS is split into four trims: the regular ATS, Luxury, Premium Performance, and Premium Luxury. The coupe has two rows of seats to accommodate up to five people, with the front that consists of 6-way power-adjustable seats with 2-way power lumbar support. A leather-wrapped steering wheel, noise control technology, and leatherette seat trim are also standard. At the Luxury trim level, Cadillac introduces 12-way power adjustability on the driver’s seat and 10-way power adjustability, on the front passenger seat, steering-wheel and front-seat heating ability, and a 2-position memory system for the driver’s seat.
Standard comfort and convenience features include cruise control, dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry, remote engine start, a 5.7-inch color driver information center, a built-in 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless charging ability, voice recognition technology, Bluetooth® wireless technology, a 12-speaker Bose® Centerpoint® surround-sound system, smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, two USB ports and an auxiliary audio jack for connecting portable media devices, 3 GB or three months of data (whichever comes first), 10 years of Cadillac Connected Services for functions such as dealer maintenance notification and monthly vehicle health alerts, a three-month trial subscription to SiriusXM® satellite radio, and an 8-inch multi-touch screen.
An auto-dimming rearview mirror and a universal home remote are added if you upgrade above base level. The Premium Performance is the only trim that has a head-up display to reduce on-the-road distraction;.
The base-level and Luxury trims are powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with 272 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, which provides the vehicle’s maximum fuel economy estimation of 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. The Premium trim range (i.e., Premium Performance and Premium Luxury) uses a 3.6-liter V6 with 335 horsepower and 285 lb-ft of torque. This engine provides the vehicle’s peak 0-60 mph time of 5.3 seconds.
Both engines are pinned to an 8-speed automatic gearbox with magnesium paddle shifters for more convenient gear shifting, and they have auto stop-start technology to eliminate idling. The aptly-named Premium Performance is the only trim with standard rear-wheel drive, which boosts handling by providing better weight distribution from front to back. Also exclusive to the Performance model are magnetic ride control, a limited-slip rear differential, and an extra-capacity engine cooling system.
You can choose between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive on the other trims.
Standard safety features on the 2019 Cadillac ATS include eight airbags, a rear vision camera, LED daytime running lights, Stabilitrak (for electronic vehicle stability and traction control), Teen Driver mode for monitoring the driving habits of younger drivers, an anti-lock braking system, a two-year subscription to OnStar® Safety & Security package (which includes automatic crash response, roadside assistance, and stolen vehicle assistance), and a theft-deterrent system. Front and rear park assist is added on the Luxury and higher. The Premium Performance and Premium Luxury also get rear cross-traffic alert, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, a following distance indicator, forward collision alert, and lane change alert with side blind zone alert.
