Yuletide is officially upon us, which means downtown Lincoln has decked the halls and taken lots of merry measures to spread the spirit of the season. Whether you’re looking to cash in on some holiday cheer or you desperately need to entertain house guests, check out our list of the jolliest activities taking place around downtown.
Catch a Live Performance of The Nutcracker
This delightful Christmastime classic comes alive once more Dec. 17-18, 2016, at the Lied Center for Performing Arts on 12th and R Streets. Over 200 dance students from around southeastern Nebraska assemblé and pirouette across the stage to the melodies played by a live orchestra. You won't want to miss out on the magic of this Lincoln tradition!
Spot the 12 Days of Downtown
From a partridge in a pear tree to the twelve drummers drumming, downtown Lincoln is home to colorful light displays honoring each of the twelve days of Christmas. The only catch is that they are hidden around P Street District, O Street and Historic Haymarket District, waiting for you to find them. Be sure to brush up on the lyrics to this classic tune before you embark on your scavenger hunt!
Go Ice Skating in the Railyard
Situated in the heart of the Railyard entertainment district, the Railyard Ice Rink has become one of the most popular destinations for holiday merriment in downtown Lincoln. There are few winter activities more fun than taking a glide around the ice rink, so gather up your friends and family and make some memories this year. The rink will be open until February 28, 2017, so you have plenty of time to check it out.
Admission is free, so dust off that pair of skates in your garage and practice your moves. Skate rental is also available for a low cost of $9 for adults and $6 for kiddos. Click here for hours of operation
