2017 Cadillac XT5 Awarded Top Safety Pick+ Rating by IIHS
Wednesday, 19 October, 2016
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has officially recognized the new Cadillac XT5
as a safe, secure crossover. Named a Top Safety Pick+ when equipped with optional front crash prevention, this is the highest rating that the IIHS gives out.
The Top Safety Pick+ title is one of the most prestigious safety awards a vehicle can win, and is only given to those that achieve top ratings across five crashworthiness tests and the additional front crash prevention test. With the optional collision mitigation system, the XT5 was able to avoid a collision with low-speed automatic braking, and significantly reduce the impact of a collision with high-speed automatic braking.
“Passenger safety was one of our top priorities when we engineered the XT5,” said Paul Spadafora, XT5 chief engineer. “We equipped the XT5 with Cadillac’s full set of driver awareness and driver assistance systems to aid collision avoidance. Just as importantly, we designed an advanced structure that is both stiffer and lighter, for excellent crashworthiness. This included a revised front structure that specifically targets the challenging offset barrier scenario.”
In addition to standard equipment like seven airbags, antilock disc brakes and stability control, the XT5 can be had with two safety packages. The Driver Awareness package adds automatic high beams, forward collision alert, front automatic braking, lane keep assist with lane departure warning and pedestrian detection. The Driver Assist package tacks on automatic park assist and the high-scoring collision mitigation system with front and rear automatic braking.
